Avast SafeZone Browser is one of those easily overlooked options that come with every Avast Antivirus installation. In most cases, nobody wants it, which is why everyone wants to uninstall Avast SafeZone Browser. Unless the user selects the ‘customize’ option during the install and unchecks the box, the browser will get installed by default. However, there are some reports online on various forums that the browser still ends up on the user’s desktop. Even if the user had previously turned off the module during the installation.
Avast claims that their SafeZone browser doesn’t violate any privacy laws. Moreover, they claim that it offers a decent level of protection. In addition, it has its own version of Adblock and filters out suspicious pages. Additionally, it has a dedicated mode for safe transactions which compares the prices for products or services online.
It was in 2016 that one Google researcher, Travis Ormandy, shed some light on the Avast SafeZone Browser. For example, the browser put its users at risk just by being installed on their systems. Avast addressed and resolved the issue later on. However, that still didn’t help their reputation. Their browser can’t be a safe way of browsing the internet when situations and issues like that happen.
Blocking Avast SafeZone Browser
The easiest way to uninstall Avast SafeZone Browser is not to install it in the first place. What do we mean by that? Well, the users can simply choose to block its installation. Those reports that Avast still installs the browser on their users’ PCs are definitely true. However, the users will at least know that they didn’t install it themselves by deciding to block it. These are the necessary steps in order to block it:
- Click the customize button on the first installation page.
- Decide which components you don’t want from the list that appears.
- Uncheck the components along with Avast Safezone Browser.
There are a lot of components on that list, half of which might be useful. However, we think that some them are completely unnecessary for a number of reasons. Firstly, Mail Shield and SecureLine is something that the users will never use. Secondly, they’ll just be in the system and eat up space for no reason. Finally, there’s always a chance that some of these components will create additional processes in the background.
Uninstalling Avast SafeZone Browser
The actual way of uninstalling Avast Safezone Browser is quite simple. In order to do that, follow these steps:
- Press the Windows key.
- Navigate to the Control Panel.
- Select the uninstall a program option from the list.
- Find Avast Free Antivirus and click on change in the context menu on the left.
- Another page will open up. Click change there as well.
- The same list of components will appear. Find Avast Safezone Browser there.
- Uncheck it.
- Click on change.
- Restart your computer.
All in all, the uninstallation process is pretty straightforward, and there’s no way to mess anything up. However, check the list of installed programs in the Control Panel from time to time to see if the browser pops back up.
